The Artist
Scott Mescudi was born on January 30, 1984, in Cleveland, Ohio. Now known by his stage name, Kid Cudi, Scott is a fresh face in the rap game. He was signed to Kanye West's label, GOOD Music, just last year. Cudi's first album, "Man on the Moon: The Guardians," was released this summer. He already has some street cred because of his lyrical assistance on Kanye's latest hit, “Heartless.” People are expecting big things from this Kid.
The Song
“Day 'N' Nite” is a tranquil song about the life and times of a pothead. The song has a sweet spacey piano riff, and Kid Cudi's rap is incredibly mellow. The beat is understated but fits the song well. Songs about marijuana are a dime a dozen, anymore, from Tom Petty's “Last Chance for Mary Jane” to Afroman's bluntly truthful “Because I Got High.” The message that sets “Day 'N' Nite” apart from the run of the mill pro-drug song is that it focuses on some of the reasons why someone smokes weed.
Lyric: I look for peace, but see, I don’t attain What I need for keeps' this silly game we play, play
The search for peace is something that we can all identify with, isn't it?
Lyric: He’s all alone through the day 'n' night The lonely loner seems to free his mind at night
We have all been lonely, haven't we? Do these natural human needs for companionship and peace excuse someone from the penalty of breaking the law? Of course not. The point is people do the things they do, even the stupid things, for a reason. The Bible tells us that we are all born evil, enemies of God. We are not Christians because we are a better people than the guy who smokes weed or even the guy who kills people. "Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior." (Colossians 1:21) We did nothing to earn our salvation. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) The difference is that people who believe in Christ have already encountered the Good News, and the Spirit has worked in their hearts.
“Day 'N' Night” should remind us that everyone has the same basic needs, the most important of which is the need for a Savior. That holds true for the local pot smoker and the big city prostitute, for the African warlord and the Islamic terrorist, for the neglectful mother and the abusive father. Jesus loves all people and wants them all to be saved. Our job as a church, our purpose for remaining on this earth, is to share the Good News with those that haven't heard it. Sharing the Good News involves trying to understand their reasons without sanctioning their evil actions. Remember how sad Jesus was when He was going to Jerusalem to die? "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing." (Matthew 23:37) Jesus knew how evil the people were, yet He still loved them so much that He wanted to die for them. The lost are out there, living in slavery and fear, lashing out and hurting others in their blindness and pain. How can we expect anything different until we show them the light of Jesus Christ?

Honestly, Day N Night has been one of my favorite songs lately. It is really catchy and shows the darker side of being a stoner but it also brings attetnion to the use of drugs to try and escape reality.
Its hard to love sinners! But I am a sinner too! But the Bible tells us to love as God loved and God loved everyone that sinned.
I always try to share the wor dof God with everyone. It often comes without thinking.
If someone chooses to reject the Good News, I usually pray for them. I have a friend who has rejected God after previously being a Christian. Her sister died two years ago and my friend became angry with God. I don’t know that she has taken in what I’ve tried to tell and show her but I continue to pray and ask God to help her find her way back to Him. I think it is our responsibility to not give up on people who reject God’s word. But I also believe we can’t do anyhting without God’s help.

i havent heard the song yet.
sometimes i feel sad or angry for them because even though they know the word of God they still sin.
I have not shared the good news with anyone this week, I dont know how to begin.
I think we should pray for them and to stand firm to keep talking the truth

I am a middle age youth minister, and I think it is inspiring that this young man is using his Rap music to reach the lost for Christ. The lyrics are great, their possibly is no better to reach this generation of youth, because they are really drawn to their music possibly more than my generation. God Bless, keep Pressing On.
