This Blood's For You

My wife came home after a meeting at our kid's school and asked if I wanted to donate blood. I have never done this.

Usually I have been disqualified because of overseas travel, or a recent illness. Today, I had nothing hindering me. Because of my grandfather's heart transplant, I carry an organ donor card. Since I have to be dead to contribute an organ, the blood drive seemed like a good thing to do now.

I got a little faint and dizzy at the end, blacking out a little bit, which made me look like a wuss in front of the moms giving blood. Women have always seemed to have more endurance than men, or at least, me.

Someone asked if I would give blood again, and I said "yes" (I even have a frequent donor card now). Giving my blood once, isn't enough, there will always be a need for more.

Jesus' blood on the other hand, cleanses us once and for all. He never has to give again and again. Today, reminding me of that.

Hebrews 7:27
Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

I'm saying a prayer for the person who might have to use my blood, not only that they will be healed, but also that they might come to know Christ whose blood can do so much more for their life.

I've donated blood twice now and both times I get a little woozy.
(Haha.)
But I love your posts.
They always seem to be relatable.

I never thought giving blood was something scary, and so I gave blood as soon as I was legally able at age 17 in our school blood drive. I went into shock and started blacking out and vommiting. I couldn't feel my legs. The nurses told all the other kids around me (who were starting to look pretty scared since they were about to give blood) that I was just nervous. I was not nervous.

Afterwards, my nurse told me to never give blood again, not even when I'm older. My mom said that my nurse probably just hit an artery and I lost blood too fast. I'm still unsure if I want to donate blood again. I have come to the conclusion that my body likes its blood, and isn't keen on giving it up.

Hey Mark,

I've donated blood twice and wasn't allowed to for my third sign up because i was on anitbiotics. But i love to donate because you end up helping someone in need.

My school is really crazy when donating blood. My friends and I have races to see who gets done the fastest and we all just have a blast, even if we're all woozy. One of my friends' tube came undone from his donation bag and his blood was spraying everywhere and by the end of the day we were laughing like crazy.

I love the fact that young people donate blood. And once you start you can't stop. lol.
