Color Me Grape ...

I love colors. I remember getting a box of 8 vibrant crayons only to get to school and find a friend who had a pack of 16.

A trip to the store and I too had 16, but then met another friend wielding the mega 64 box with the coveted built in crayon sharpener.

I had to have that too. I was suffering from crayon envy. I love colors.

My dad is an architect and my grandfather was a cabinet maker, so they always had color samples around. These "color chips" of various paints, plastics, and Formica were some of my fondest playthings when I was really young. I soon learned that there were many different kinds of green:

  1. Hunter
  2. Kelly
  3. Grashopper
  4. Jade
  5. Chartreuse
  6. Emerald
  7. Forest
  8. Bright Green
  9. Fern
  10. Celadon
  11. Olive
  12. Army
and the list goes on ...

Soon I realized that it was unusual for boys to know so many different names for colors, so I pretended that I didn't know about them, and tried to stick to the standard 8 box of crayons even though I could practically taste each of the 64 colors (I think this is a fusion of my love for Jelly Bellies and colors). But I couldn't help but wonder if I understood colors differently than my friends because I was more consciously aware of the subtle differences. Surely my friends perceived the same color I did, but I thought about it differently.

Perhaps this is why I understand my wife's need for yet another "black" pair of shoes. All blacks are not the same, some are warm, some are cool. Many of my fellow husband types do not "see" the difference.

I love color and am sometimes frustrated we only have 3 primary colors and the values of black and white to play with. I wonder if in heaven, we will be able to "see" colors we have never seen before? While our human minds are limited by the primary colors of pigment (yellow, red, blue) and three for light (green, cyan, and magenta), I wonder if God has other primary colors we can't yet conceive of.

Perhaps seeing God will allow us to see a whole lot more than we do now. Just a thought.

Revelation 21
1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." 5He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!"

Pretty cool thought, everything made new. I bet there are some mind blowing things we have yet to discover. I hope new colors are part of the many wonderful creations God has in store for us.

Right now I am loving the color purple. I've been eating grape Mike and Ike's, grape jelly Jelly Bellys and swinging through Sonic for grape slushes. Don't know why, but I love the feeling grape gives you in the cheeks, especially when it is tart. Purple is a strange color, but it tastes great.

Some questions for you to think about...

Got a favorite color for the moment?

Do girls understand color better than guys? Why?

What do you look forward to God making new?

my color right now is red, and personally i think some guys understand color better than girls. it just depends on who you are. I'm looking forward to spring when God will warm the earth and the beautiful flowers will come out in all the colors

haha woah, did you take color theory in college?:P

my favorite color would probably have to be pink or yellow. not together though. so easter dressish.

in some ways i think boys don't understand. for example a boy who sits next to me in history class who was deff wearing a brick color of red said it was peach?
ahahaa. yeahhhh..

It's funny that you posted this because just today in second period, my friend who sits behind me was wearing a red shirt with a red jacket.
i said, "Whoa! your shirt and jacket match."
Apparently, they didn't.
Don't red and red match?
they're different shades of red, she said. shades? they're still red!
I guess i fall into that category of boys you were talking about...

I love colors too. I enjoy contrasting the colors of my outfits as well...I don't share that with many other people either.

Purple is actually one of my favorite colors, I have this really sweet purple polo that put over a blue and white striped button down, with my custom made Converses, that are purple with skulz...so raw.

But Orange is mah fav.
I like it's quirky-ness, I like how obscure it is, and I dont just like orange...there are many shades of Orange that I prefer over others.
Same with blue.

Peace out

Chromatics! I am fascinated by how living things respond to different colors. How a plant in green light can't photosynthesize. How some people have synesthesia. How colors are associated with different moods.

I've liked the hot pink & black combination for a while now...

I think guys understand function and concept, where as women understand description and detail...therefore women understand the detail and intricateness of color but men understand the concept behind color.

As with all questions, I think that we'll be able to see all aspects of the electromagnetic spectrum when in heaven and beyond that...ultimately resulting in more 'colors'.

First off, Unsuspecting Thoughts, are you speaking English???

Second, currently, my favorite color is Emerald green, that may be a byproduct of the fact that it is also my birthstone but honestly I am just overwhelmingly subdued by such an illusive color, have you ever seen a truly GOOD value emerald? Yes, it's green but in the center of the gem is an illusive blue light that darts around. Ooh, gorgeous. Sorry, got off track there for a moment, but I'm back now.
I don't believe that one sex understands color better than another, given that my brother is constantly experimenting with color an has remarkable taste, whereas many of my girl friends from church hear me mention that a certain pair of "black" shoes didn't quite go well with my "black" skirt and are completely baffled as to how black doesn't go with black. I think it all simply depends on who you are and what interests God put in your head.

As for more colors when we get to Heaven, I agree with Unsuspecting Thoughts, I believe God will open our eyes to all aspects of the color spectrum and we will then be subject to more colors than we have seen before. YAY MORE COLORS!!! I LOVE COLORS!!!!

And last, when it comes to what God will make new, I haven't given it much thought, I'm still overwhelmed by the thought of seeing God "in person."
