As close as it is now to October 31, the phrase “Happy Halloween” is as commonly seen as leaves are one the ground. Of course, most of us being Christians, we all know about the annual contoversy that rides shotgun with the holiday. Some of us were raised knowing that it is not a Christian-like holiday, and a few of us refuse to celebrate the holiday. To get to the point, I am not going to celebrate Halloween this year, or from now on. Instead, I will be replacing this satanic holiday with a German alternative, Reformation Day. Yes, on October 31, I, like the Germans will be celebrating Reformation Day.
For those of you who might not know, Reformation Day was established to commemorate the begging of the Protestant Reformation. On Ocober 31, sometime in the Middle Ages, Martin Luther posted the 95 Theses, which started the Reformation, which in turn brought about several of the denominations we know of today.
As a Christian, I find this holiday to be more appropriate for celebration than the other. In all respect, you are still free to live October’s end any way you want, but I still think we should follow the Germans’ example for this particular occassion. My final question is, “Will you join me in celebration of this alternative?”
