Looking
for a fun way to weird out your friends-and yourself?
Try this quick and easy recipe.
Warning: This is not something you're going to want to eat. Trust
me,
I learned the hard way.
You'll need:
o a small mixing bowl
o the food coloring of your choice
o a 1/2 cup of water
o a heaping cup of corn starch
Pour the water in the bowl, then add a few drops of your
food coloring.
Finally, add your heaping cup of cornstarch and mix thoroughly.
(It'll take a little work.)
After you've got your stuff thoroughly mixed, pour a little bit of
it
into one hand. (You'll want to do this over the sink unless you have
a wet/dry vac handy.)
Start rolling the gooey liquid around in your palm until it becomes
kind of a dry, solid form.
When you've got one, cohesive piece of glob, just relax your hand
and
watch what happens. The whole blob of goo should lose it's shape,
dissolve into a liquid,
and ooze between your fingers. It's pleasantly gross.
But if you start working what's left in your hand, it will become
a solid again.
Cool, huh?
To amaze a sibling, friend, or beloved family pet, get a little of
the stuff
into a solid shape-then drop it into his/her/its hand. Watch their
face as the
stuff dissolves and oozes out of their grasp.
If you like your new toy so much you want to take it away from the
sink, pour
some of it into a balloon and tie that puppy shut. You'll end up with
kind of
a weird squeeze toy for on-the-move summer fun.
Now for the odd biblical tie-in:
Some Christians are as unstable as this glob of goo. The Bible warns
that if you
go back and forth between believing God (solid) and doubting (liquid),
you're
life will be tossed around like a ship caught in a storm at sea (James
1:6).
God said He would give wisdom in abundance to anyone who asked-as
long as that
person believed He could give it to them (vv. 5-6). Building that
kind of faith
takes time in God's Word, time in prayer, and time with people who
already have
a strong faith.
It also takes practice-trusting God when life gets hard (vv. 1-4).
So decide if you want to be a liquid or a solid-and stick with one
or the other.
I recommend the solid. Once you know what God can do, He'll give you
more wisdom
than you'll know what to do with. In the mean time, make some glop.
I Dare You!
