Just in time for halloween!
We're going to make some really good and gory treats here in the kitchen.
And while we do, we might as well learn a thing or two about God.
My favorite Halloween
costume in Jr. High consisted of a white lab jacket, a wild black wig,
and a package of Knox gelatin on my face mixed with red food die. The
red gelatin mixture was applied in such a way that I appeared to have
a giant scap on my face. One year I was ambitious enough to spread the
goo over my eye (it was well protected with gauze and cotton).
Jell-o and I have
been together for a mighty long time.
My Jell-O experiments
led to other interesting oddities. One such Halloween treat was a dismembered
Jell-O hand. It is this tasty treat I want to teach you how to prepare
this month.

You'll need:
A large package of
Jell-O -- color of your choice.
A rubber glove (like
janitors and doctors use)
Some vegetable oil
spray (like PAM or Bakers Choice)
Watch as Mrs. Dare
(late at night with no make-up on thus donning sunglasses) makes the hand.
Invert the latex (rubber) glove and wash it thouroughly.
Coat with a light
spray of vegetable oil.
Mix Jell-O in a bowl according to instructions. Mrs. Dare
typically uses less water than called for to make the jell-o set firmer.
After the mixture cools (we used ice cubes), fill glove with the mixture.
Your hand is ready
for the fridge.
Let sit for 3-5 hours before removing from glove. It is best to set the jell-o
filled glove in a pan (ask me how I figured that out!)
When the hand is done
you will notice that it does not move, or do anything productive like
a hand should. Hence our lesson for the day.
Proverbs 10:9 states,
"Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth."
There is no replacement
for hard work in life. To make a living, no matter what you do, it will
require work. In the days the proverbs were written, the only way to provide
for your family was to work with your hands in some way. Today, we have
many ways we can make a living, not all are physical labor intensive,
but they still require us to be diligent.
As you eat your "lazy
hand" remember to work diligently in all you do. Keep your self from
being lazy.
