Who can resist the smooth, slippery taste
of lime jello? Agreed, it is a very simple dish, but food is not just
a matter of taste, but one of presentation.
This month in the Kitchen we want to take a look at some of the things
that distract us from our devotion to God. In the book of Proverbs much
is written about the harlot or adulltress trying to lure an innocent away
from what is right. When thinking about this slippery woman, I immediately
went to The Kitchen to create Barbie with Lime Jello.
To make this tasty treat you will need:
- A Barbie Doll with clothes that will look good through the Lime Jello
(I used a "My First Barbie" released in 1981, because her
outfit was yellow and her hair was kewl)
- A mold to hold Barbie and the Jello while it sets (a milk carton works
good)
- Enough Lime Jello to cover Barbie in the mold (took me about three
large packages)
The best way to do this is to make the Jello in two stages. Make the
first layer and let it set. Then place Barbie on the set Jello and cover
with a final layer. This way Barbie is suspended perfectly in the center.
If you use a milk carton you can cut the top off, fill it with jello,
and place Barbie in the middle. Let this set and you are ready to eat!
By the way -- Barbie looks real neato with the jello all over.

God warns us throughout the book of Proverbs (pay attention to Chapter
7) to be alert to the seduction of the adultress. We are warned to stay
away from her path. When we see the word "adultress" we obviously
think of one who is sexually unfaithful to their spouse. The use of "adultress"
in Proverbs goes way beyond its sexual meaning.
An adultress is known for her seductive ability to lead the faithful
away from his or her committment.
We can also think of the adultress as any person, activity, or thought
that leads us away from our first, true love -- Jesus Christ. There are
many seductions we can give into that will lead us away from our relationship
with Christ. The adultress may come in the form of a job, music, a person
we want to be close to, or our schoolwork.
Be careful not to be seduced and led into the bedroom of the adultress
and become unfaithful to God. Here are some ways to escape seduction.
- Stay close to God through prayer. I know that by keeping my relationship
with my wife strong, I will not be tempted to be unfaithful. The same
is true in our relationship with God. The closer we are to Him, the
easier it is to stay close.
- Stay close to God by memorizing His word. Scripture memory is a great
way to keep us faithful. Scripture memory is not a game -- it is vital
to our existence as believers.
